Making the transition from good to great doesn’t require a high-profile CEO, the latest technology, innovative change management, or even a fine-tuned business strategy. At the heart of those rare and truly great companies was a corporate culture that rigorously found and promoted disciplined people to think and act in a disciplined manner.

We came across an article on the Young and Thrifty blog in which the author details how she went about getting signed up for the student package and saving a whopping $750 a year on her services with Shaw! One of our staff followed the steps in the article and is also now saving big on her services with Shaw!

Independent full-time students enrolled in a post-secondary program quality for the discount. Valid student idea and proof of enrolment must be provided in order to activate the reduced rates. With savings that significant, it’s definitely worth a phone call and a trip to the nearest Shaw office!

Have you tried it and then gradually fall out of habit? Well, you are not alone!

Journaling does require you to create a new habit, but it’s a habit is strongly linked to success.

A look at successful leaders throughout time reveals they all journal in some way. Journaling help them gain the clarity of their vision, learn from successes and mistakes, and capture ideas when the iron strikes. Proponents of journaling state that putting pen to paper to write your vision and goals, sets a stronger intention and makes them seem more real than if you were to type that information into a computer.

While setting up a corporation may seem like a good idea if you’re self-employed, it can have serious tax consequences in certain instances. If Canada Revenue Agency determines that you are, effectively, an “incorporated employee”, it may disallow a number of business expenses as well as the small business deduction which normally applies to the first $500,000 of active business income that a corporation generates. This can result in the corporation’s income being taxed at the highest corporate rate.

Some of the criteria that distinguish a corporation set up by a truly independent contractor versus a personal service corporation (PSC) include whether the corporation has only a single client or very few clients, whether the client provides work space or equipment and how much control the client has over when and where the contractor provides his or her services. Canada Revenue Agency’s interpretation of the Income Tax Act with regards to “incorporated employees” is that, without the existence of the corporation, the person performing the services on behalf of the client company would reasonably be regarded as an officer or employee of that company.

Those who are required to work on-site for their client, on a schedule determined by the client and who are provided with work space and equipment would most definitely be considered to be operating a personal service business by CRA.

Pareto and NOW Developments are at it again! Our next project is located at 1915 Stainsbury Avenue near Commercial Street. This particular block won the Georgia Straight’s ‘Best of Vancouver Awards’ for being Vancouver’s block most worthy of revitalization.

Individual partners can participate in the site’s redevelopment as we move into a residential townhouse and condo community with projected returns in the 18-23% range per annum.

The Pareto Group of Companies targets high-value real estate opportunities that are too large for many individual investors, yet too small in scale to draw interest from institutional players. It is within this overlooked segment where we can deploy our legal, finance and development expertise to unlock the enormous hidden potential of these assets.

NOW stands for New Original Works and is a development concept built around a series of small, smart, carefully designed additions to neighborhoods and communities throughout Vancouver.
